Sri Lanka’s bank lending portfolio has to more than double from the current Rs. 2 trillion to enable the country to reach a per capita income of $4,000 from a current $2000, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal said, speaking as the chief guest at the opening of the Sampath Bank Super Branch at No.103, Dharmapala Mawatha Colombo 7 on Friday.
He stressed the need for the banking sector to be prepared for the changes that are taking place in Colombo under the government’s Colombo city development programme. He welcomed the initiative of Sampath Bank towards providing banking facilities for customers all 365 days of the year from 7.00am to 10.00 pm daily at its Colombo super branch.
Managing Director Sampath Bank Harris Premaratne said that they have recruited 500 youths recently to handle customer care at its branches countrywide and another batch of 400 will be recruited soon.
