Roteract Club of ANC Education donates a library to Wilimbula Maha Vidyalaya, Gampaha
The Roteract Club of ANC Education achieved another significant milestone on its journey recently when it donated a school library to Wilimbula Maha Vidyalaya in the Gampaha District. The project was completed very successfully and was recognised as one of the most successful community service projects done by a tertiary education institute.
True to its motto "Learn to Lead" ANC Education prepares Sri Lanka's youth to take future leadership positions by giving them much more than just classroom education. The ability to understand the needs of society and country, work in different environments and conditions, team work skills, positive attitude, and other soft skills are given high priority. Interestingly the top employers and industry demand these practical and hands-on skills and positive attitudes.
This project is the latest in a series of social events conducted by ANC Roteract Club, one of the many students associations at ANC Education. Under this project the members of the Rotaract Club of ANC renovated and painted the school library, and donated shelves and books required. A simple ceremony was held on May 6, 2011 to mark the event, and to hand over the library. The Principal of Wilimbula Maha Vidyalaya thanked the ANC Rotaract Club members for their generosity accorded in helping a less-privileged school, and appreciated the ANC Education Rotaract Club members' sense of social responsibility, which she stated, was hard to find in today's society.
During the last 11 months, the ANC Education Roteract Club has been engaged in many community service activities which include a blood camp held at the Narahenpita Blood Transfusion Centre, spend-the-day at an Elders' and Children's Home to commemorate the Elders' and Children's Day, a youth exchange held during the month of December 2010, where almost 500 students from the North of Sri Lanka were brought to Colombo for a two-day stay in Colombo, an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, and a spend-the-day with inmates of a drug rehabilitation centre in Bataramulla.
The Rotaract Club of ANC has also organized projects under other areas of services, such as, lectures on wildlife, international food fiestas, hosting a member from a Rotaract Club of India, study skill seminars for high school (O/Level and A/Level) students and seminars on higher education for students of all age groups.
The incumbent President of the Rotaract Club of ANC Rtr. Imasha Fernando, during the general meeting, stated that the Club has performed extremely well this year carrying out a number of diverse projects whereby helping the less privileged in the society, by simply following the true meaning of 'Rotaract', which is to serve the society and serve themselves with experience, while maintaining a low profile, without much fan-fare and publicity.
It was noted that the Club members benefited immensely by self development during the last one year while being engaged in the projects. Rtr. Imasha also thanked his office bearers; Rtr. Chirath Manchanayake, Rtr. Rishitha Peries, Rtr. Sanjeewa Fernando, Rtr. Vikkash Gopal, Rtr. Indrachapa Edirisinghe, Rtr. Jananee Chandramohan, Rtr. M N M Hakeem, Rtr. Naomi Lovell, Rtr.
