CIRP to promote Psychology and Research in Sri Lanka

Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology (CIRP) marks a significant turning point in the history of Psychology education in Sri Lanka, introducing a variety of diploma courses in Psychology to cater to a variety of individuals of different backgrounds. CIRP intends to broaden its objectives in particular, to inspire "unconstrained thinking" or creativity. Such endeavours have led CIRP to provide a number of essential courses and find common allies in their aims and objectives.

CIRP is the pioneer Education institute in Sri Lanka to offer diploma courses in Forensic and Criminal Psychology and Abnormal and Clinical Psychology for the first time apart from the diplomas in General Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Organizational Psychology offered by the institute. So far these diploma programmes have attracted a large number of individuals interested in Psychology and the institute reports increasing numbers in each of its intakes due to past records of teaching and other facilities maintained. The students of CIRP now have the opportunity to get trained in counselling in its first- ever counselling laboratory in Sri Lanka.

According to the management, CIRP has improved its quality of education as well as the facilities provided to students which led the institute to be recognized locally as well as internationally. It is already a registered education provider under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission and both EDEXCEL (UK) and Cambridge University Examinations (UK) have recognized CIRP as one of their international centres.

In addition, CIRP has joined hands with other leading education institutes and leading schools in Colombo in promoting Psychology in Sri Lanka. It has collaborations with Ladies' College and Alethea International School to offer Psychology and Sociology for O/L and A/L students. CIRP also entered into an agreement with Ladies' College Department of Vocational Studies to conduct a joint programme in Child and Adolescent Psychology.

The Psychology division of CIRP with its well qualified and experienced lecture panel is expecting to expand its services further in the field of Psychology in Sri Lanka giving a truly novel experience to individuals interested in Psychology. Essentially CIRP hopes to propagate the study of psychology and inspire creativity among the youth in Sri Lanka.
