On July 5, Jeewa International Campus held its First Year Certificate Award Ceremony [2010/11] at the Water's Edge Hotel, Battaramulla.
The ceremony started with the lighting up of the traditional oil lamp. The guests who attended the event included the chief guest Mr. Brian D. Cole - Director of Studies, ATMC / University of Ballarat Australia, Mr. G. Bajwa - College Director,ATMC/ University of Ballarat Sri Lanka Study Centre, Mr. David Samuel - Business Development Manager, Australian Trade Commission, Mrs. Sujeewa Fernando - Director, Jeewa Education and Mr. Kolitha Fernando - Managing Director, Jeewa International Campus.
The welcome speech was conducted by Mr. Kolitha Fernando - Managing Director of Jeewa International Campus [JIC]. Mr. Fernando reminisced about the commencement of JIC in 2010. The vision has been to be the number one Higher Educational pathway provider in Sri Lanka, for students who are planning to study overseas. Within this short period of time JIC has come a long way in achieving excellence.
JIC is an accredited centre to the Australian Unified Pathway Programme [AUPP] for its degree programmes. With AUPP, students have the opportunity to complete the 1st year of the degree in their own country and complete the rest of the studies overseas with the universities associated with AUPP. This method enables them to get ready for their future studies as well as save valuable time and money.
Mr. Fernando also mentioned that currently at JIC, students have the chance to follow AUPP for Business and Information Technology degree programmes and the University of Ballarat, Australia is the main affiliated university with JIC.
The Chief Guest Mr. Cole in his speech explained the history of the University of Ballarat, which is 137 years old and the 3rd oldest university in Australia. Located in Melbourne, this prestigious university has made its mark in the educational history as one of the best universities in Australia. Mr. G. Bajwa - Managing Director of University of Ballarat Sri Lanka Study Centre conducted a presentation on the study centre which is located at Dutugamunu Street, Kohuwela. He emphasized on the fact that the Sri Lanka Study Centre is not an affiliation, but a direct branch of the University of Ballarat. With its spacious classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories and comprehensive library, the study centre promises five star teaching qualities by its lecturers. Students of JIC can complete any combination of studies in the University of Ballarat Sri Lanka Study Centre. They have the opportunity to complete part of the degree in Sri Lanka and the rest overseas or they can complete the whole degree here in Sri Lanka which is more cost effective but has the same quality as the University of Ballarat.
Sixteen students received the certificates and the Highest Achiever Award was won by Subhashana Karunarathna for the best GPA in all subjects. After the speech by a student at JIC and the Vote of Thanks conducted by Mrs. Sujeewa Fernando, the ceremony came to an end.
Mr. Kolitha Fernando and Mrs. Sujeewa Fernando explained how Jeewa Australian Education Centre started over 8 years ago specializing in student visa consultation. Various facilities such as student recruitment, visa preparation, IELTS training etc are provided to the students. The next step has been taken by establishing Jeewa International Campus.
