Armenia is a beautiful country located in the southern Caucasus and is the smallest of the former Soviet republics. It is bordered by Georgia on the north, Azerbaijan on the east, Iran on the south, and Turkey on the west. Contemporary Armenia is a fraction of the size of ancient Armenia. Armenia lies on the crossroads of Asia and Europe takes pride in the fact that it is the first national to formally adopt Christianity (early 4th century. It is a country of beautiful lakes, mountains and old culture.
It is one of the most developed countries among the former Soviet republics. Its long cultural history and traditional excellence in the field of culture and academics is now achieving new heights. Armenian universities have opened their doors for foreign students for education in the field of medicine, nursing and engineering. With famous universities like Yerevan State Medical College (estd. 1920), Yerevan State Engineering University (estd. 1933) and Erebuni State Medical College (estd. 1960), American University of Armenia (estd. 1989). Armenia has now opened its doors for Sri Lankan students. Last year a few Sri Lankan students got admission in Yerevan State Medical College through Haniya Education. The Sri Lankan students found the education standards in Armenia high and tuition fee nominal unlike other countries. The people of Armenia are hospitable and welcoming. Living expenses in Armenian are probably the lowest in comparison to other European countries.
The Haniya Education based in Colombo are representing Armenian universities and are extending all support and guidance to Sri Lankan students willing to pursue their dreams of higher education. Apart from medical courses they are also facilitating admission in four-year Engineering course (Software Engineering , Telecommuncations, and Information Systems). The fee for engineering courses is a nominal USD 2000 per year.
Another attractive course for Sri Lankan students is a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) course with a nominal fee of USD 1500 per year. The unique feature of this programme is that upon completion the students get two degrees.
One degree is awarded by the Armenian university and another from University of California at Los Angeles (USA), which is their partner university. After this degree, students can also get admission in the Master of Public Health programme of American University of Armenia and can easily find a job in USA.
Another lesser known fact about Armenia is that it is a small country with a population of only 3 million and a diaspora of about 5 million, out of which 1 million each are in US and Russia and Europe. Since the visa regime for local Armenians for visiting US and Europe is very liberal, Sri Lankan students avail themselves of this facility and travel to US and Europe during their summer vacations to earn some extra bucks. |
