Academic strengths
The University of Sheffield is at the forefront of world research. As a result our teaching is informed by the latest developments in each discipline. In teaching 29 of our subject areas are officially rated as "excellent", an achievement surpassed by only two UK universities. For research, 35 subject areas earned top 5 and 5* ratings in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. The results also show that 81% of staff assessed are in 5* and 5 rated departments, compared with the national average of 55%.
We recently won our fourth Queen's Anniversary Prize for our Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing. This is a prime example of our strong relationships with global organisations who are attracted by our world-class research and invest millions of pounds in collaboration with our University.
