Edexcel UK recognizes BCAS as Most Outstanding and Fastest Growing Institution in SL

British College of Applied Studies (BCAS ) has been recognized by Edexcel UK for outstanding performance as the fastest growing centre, high quality levels maintained, innovative programmes and long standing relationship with Edexcel. This award was given during the launch of the primary and intermediate curriculum for International Diploma & the BTEC QCF framework. The function was held at Taj Hotel on June 9 2011.

Dr. David Davies, Head of Stakeholder Relations- Edexcel and Ms. Preeti D'mello, Regional Director - India Sub Continent, Edexcel presented the award to Mr. Mafeel , Director -British College of Applied Studies. Proper education helps to open up many doors and achieve countless opportunities. It is a proven fact that a good educational qualification will always give an edge in the job market which, at the moment, is very much competitive. Getting the correct qualification from the correct institute is critical. With the boom of the education industry in Sri Lanka, sometimes identifying one's educational needs can be confusing.

British College of Applied Studies [BCAS] is one of the frontline education providers in Sri Lanka. As per Mr. Abdur Rahman, the Chairman of BCAS, the institute has been successfully in operation since 1999. BCAS is a registered institution with the Ministry of Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, Sri Lanka.

Mainly affiliated with the University of Wolverhampton [UK], and other prestigious universities such as University of Bedfordshire, University of West London and University of Central Lancashire, BCAS offers educational programmes varying from Certificate level to Higher National Diploma level as well as Vocational Studies. The courses are ranging through Computing, Management, Engineering, Construction Studies, Legal Studies and Health Sciences.

BCAS has the City Campus located in the Galle Road, Dehiwela Campus, Kandy Campus and another centre operated in Qatar. Prospective students complete the G.C.E. A/L at school and then directly follow the HND level in their chosen path. They also have the option to get qualified by first completing the Certificate level course and then moving on to the Diploma level. This saves a considerable amount of time and the BCAS students can get in to their preferred fields much quicker than the others. After completing the HND level, they can either go to UK for their final year or complete it here in Sri Lanka.
'The secret of the success of BCAS lies in the absolute attention to detail and the highly qualified and dedicated staff' said Mr. Rahman. The BCAS City Campus or otherwise known as the Top-Up Campus, provides completely state-of-the-art facilities such as laboratories, libraries etc, to the students. The refurbished premises were closely inspected and approved at once without any recommendations for any kind of changes by the validation team assigned by the University of Wolverhampton and its faculty staff without hesitation of its international standards.

The Top-Up Campus provides the students who wish to complete their studies in Sri Lanka to have the same standard of education they would receive in UK. Mr. Rahman explained that the lecturer panel who would conduct lectures at the University of Wolverhampton would visit Sri Lanka to conduct the same lectures. There will be at least two visits of the lecturers for each module. This would give students similar level of education as their UK counterpart for a relatively low cost. However, Mr. Rahman emphasized that should a student wish to get a complete living experience in UK, they can still complete the final semester abroad.

The courses are offered on a full-time and part-time basis. Full-time courses have at least 20 hours of active studying per week and the Top Up Campus is a complete full-time study facility. The students get sufficient exposure and involvement in their education. BCAS students get special attention on developing their English language skills. The separate English Teaching Unit has 12 full-time teachers available and students can follow the English programme parallel to their chosen course.

AT BCAS, vocational studies have become very popular among students. Not only it helps them to advance in their career but, it also helps students to discover and improve their skills in a practical manner. BCAS also provides facilities for students who got their MBBS overseas or in Sri Lanka and who wish to migrate to Australia, to complete their AMC [Australian Medical Council] test by providing a 6 month course. Sri Lanka's leading practitioners conduct the lectures.

If a student wishes to continue studies with any other university, he or she can easily do so through BCAS placements. Be it USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, they will have no difficulty in getting into their preferred university. The friendly counsellors will help them to find universities, advice on visa and settlement matters.

Services offered by BCAS do not end after the student graduates. BCAS Placement Division will assist them to get enrolled into various trainings and internships with leading companies in Sri Lanka. Especially for students who received vocational training, such as CAD, Building Studies and Land Surveying, BCAS will help in job placements in Qatar. Mr. Rahman showed how they could go for a much higher salary after the vocational training.

Dedication and commitment will help a student to climb high in life. Choosing the right path and the institution will add more value to that step. True to their motto, studying at BCAS will open up new horizons by Building Careers and Transforming Lives.
