Second half rally helps Kandy

Kandy came from behind to ground the Airmen by 15 Points (3 tries) to 7 points (1 Try, 1 Conversion) in their Caltex Clifford Cup semi final rugby encounter at the Bogambara Stadium Yesterday.
At the short breather it was Air Force who held the edge by leading 7-5.

The game was played under wet conditions. Both teams handled the ball well despite of bad ground conditions. Kandy scored first through centre Pradeep Liyanage. Air Force replied through Winger Midun Hapugoda. Radhika Hettiarachchi added the extra 2 points to take “Lemons” at 7-5.

After the turn around Kandy came back with telling effect. They scored through Winger Sanjaeewa Jayasinghe (who was playing his last game in Kandy) and Mohamed Jabbar. Roshan Weeraratne had an off day with his kicks missing all of them. In addition he missed three kickable penalties.

One player each from Kandy and Air Force were “Yellow Carded” for rough play in the second half.

For Kandy Fazil Marija and Sanjeewa Jayasinghe were outstanding while for the Airmen Milinda Jayasinghe and Radhika Hettiarachchi were in the thick of things.

Kandy will travel down to Colombo to take on Navy in the Clifford Cup Final next Saturday at Royal Sports Complex. Kick off at 4.30 pm.
