Sanath Jayasuriya’s Xl thrashed by northern novices

A team of northern youth led by Navaratnam Navatheepan thrashed a team led by parliamentarian Sanath Jayasuriya and comprised of ministers Dallas Alahapperuma and Chandrasiri Gajadheera by nine wickets at a softball cricket match played at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara last Saturday (10).

Navatheepan would never have dreamt that he could claim the wicket of Sanath Jayasuriya for 15 runs and Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera for a duck! Vimalanandan Vinod sent Dallas Alahapperuma to the pavilion for just three runs.

The cricket match was possible thanks to the ministers of Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation and Youth Affairs and Skills Development who jointly hosted a group of 500 northern youth on a tour to the southern province last weekend. Anthony Edward Alvin thrashed the southern politicians for an unbeaten 34 comprising of four sixes and a boundary to see the visitors win by nine wickets with three overs to spare.
