Can you beat this?
The Aussie cricket tour is almost over. Our cricketers did their best. It is up to us now to correct the mistakes and think of the future, However on another aspect of cricket fans who followed the games on TV were appalled by the poor standard of compeering especially by our own experts.
There was this chap who talking about Sri Lanka and the strange thing is that he did not even know what colours the Sri Lanka flag had. Can you beat it?
Add to the woes, most of the time he concentrates on murdering the queen, and times it goes as low as calling the soil coming off the wicket “puss”.
Not on good terms
A top sports festival came to a close at a newly constructed stadium recently. A top guy’s son was to be the chief guest but he did not turn up for the event because he is not in good terms with the boss of the sport that was being featured. How catty can some people be?
One million for visiting journalists
A top beach sport is being planned way down south and a contingent of 125 media personnel from overseas are to attend the event which has been given a lot of advanced publicity. When we inquired how these foreign journalists are to be taken care of a top official said that a sum of Rs. One Million has been passed to look after the visiting newsmen. We wonder how far this sum will go especially with the high cost of living in the Island at present.
Sports or politics
A top businessman has been told that he must choose his preferences. If it is sports then stick to it but you simply cannot mix politics and sports. This businessman has indicated to some other quarters that he prefers sports, specially the willow yielding kind,
Roughing it out
At a National Sports Festival sports officers had to bathe in two taps only creating a lot of problems for them. The bathrooms had been fitted with showers but no water came from them because the water connection had not been given. So what could be done? They had to rough it out for the sake of sports.
A damp squib
A Sri Lankan team went to the Isle of Man in the United Kingdom to take part in a competition there and they did fairly well by winning the Bowl. However the team did not have the proper kits to warm up because of the intense cold weather.
They warmed up and before the cold climate could dampen their hopes they rushed back to the dressing rooms to keep warm. Most of the others were not bothered by the cold weather because they took part in indoor courts except the rugby players and the athletes of course.
Passing the buck
Who was the cricketer who passed on a Rs.140,000/- excess luggage bill on to the struggling board after a shopping spree while abroad with the team?
