United Continental Holdings, Inc is the new holding company for United Airlines and Continental Airlines. This merger brings together two of the world’s best airlines to create the new United Airlines, its local GSA said.
United Air Services being the General Sales Agent (GSA) for United Airlines since 1992, will henceforth also represent Continental Airlines in Sri Lanka. Both airlines will operate independently of each other, until Q2 2012, when Continental and its associated branding will exit the market.
Continental and United are working to align key customer services, marketing activities and airport processes, and are expected to complete the merger integration within 12 to 18 months.
Together with United Express, Continental Express and Continental Connection, the new United operates a total of approximately 5,800 flights a day to 371 destinations throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia from hubs in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Guam, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo and Washington, D.C. United and Continental are members of Star Alliance, which offers more than 21,200 daily flights to 181 countries worldwide through its 28 member airlines.
