Colombo bourse shows gains while regional markets fall

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has shown gains while regional markets have fallen, according to latest data released globally.

The CSE said its All Share Price Index (ASPI) recorded a positive performance when compared with regional exchanges, gaining by 2.23% in the year to September 2011 while 13 other exchanges reported a sharp drop in the index as per the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, Country Classification.

“Globally, most stock exchanges have recorded negative growth as measured by their respective broad market indices which track the market price movements,” the CSE said.

The exchanges surveyed included Singapore (-18.8%), Bombay (-19.79%) and Hong Kong (-22.49%). Pakistan was among the least-affected markets with -2.39% change in the index.
