Thirty eight members of the Interact Club of AIS, including the new committee of 2011/12, visited the village of Polgasowita along with two representatives from the Interact District 3220, last week.
The day's proceedings began with the donation of over 250 plants to village families. Each family received five plants - 2 coconut plants, one banana plant, one guava plant and one belli fruit plant.
The residents expressed their gratitude towards ICAIS and the efforts they were putting into helping the residents.
They also mentioned that the village frequently received clothes and rations as donations which were appreciated, but the school club's donation of plants would definitely be much more valuable and useful in the long term. Those present were given a demonstration by Mr. Gamage of the Coconut Development Authority, of how a typical coconut plant is planted in the most beneficial way.
The Interactors carried the plants to 52 residences, where they aided the villagers in the planting. It was an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. The residents of Polgasowita were wonderful hosts and they genuinely appreciated the students' efforts by offering a wonderful meal of freshly prepared manioc (Cassava). Then, the students were taken on a tour of the village, the vegetation fields where acres of land had been cultivated with tomatoes, lemons, etc.
At the end of another successful project the AIS Interactors said goodbye to their hosts and the beautiful village and departed for Colombo. The Rotary Club of Colombo West has constantly commended the outstanding service rendered by the Asian International School Interact Club to society and to less fortunate people.
