A wedding party in Chilaw ended in tragedy when a vehicle carrying some of the guests collided with a lorry, leaving three dead and six injured. The accident took place around 3 am.
The three who were killed included the brother of the bridegroom, who had come down from Italy to attend the wedding, and two members of the band that had performed at the event. The dead were identified as W. M. A. Sanjeewa (24), Asantha Romesh (24), and Jude Bastian (29).
Members of the bridegroom’s family said the bridegroom’s brother had been looking forward to attending the wedding in Sri Lanka. His wife had stayed behind in Italy because she is in an advanced stage of pregnancy.
