Nelum Pokuna theatre in infographics

An interactive information graphic explaining the interior of the newly opened Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Centre for Performing Arts has been posted on our website www.sundaytimes.lk.

The centre was declared open this week by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Zhang Meiying, Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The complex, which cost more than Rs. 3,000 million, comes as a gift from China.

The theatre comprises a main auditorium, an open-air theatre, an open stage and exhibition halls, and can host a range of events, including stage performances, exhibitions, conferences, and festivals.

The complex extends five floors above ground and two floors below ground level. It is 28 metres in height, and has a total floor area of 15,562 square metres. The main auditorium can accommodate an audience of 1,288 persons.
