The Revelations, Sri Lanka’s acclaimed all-male vocal group returned to the island earlier this month after a successful tour of Malaysia.
Their tour began with two performances in the Actor’s Studio in Lot 10, Jln Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur where they showcased their hallmark acapella singing together with beat boxing and intricate harmonies.
“The Revelations is all about harmony,” says the group’s Choral Director – Sanjeev Jeyaratnam, “and songs that are harmonious. We always enjoy singing songs unaccompanied which undoubtedly is a challenge, but the outcome is exciting and makes the effort all the more worthwhile.”
After Kuala Lumpur, they travelled to Penang and en-route stopped at a Chinese school in the city of Ipoh where they conducted a workshop for the 40 member school choir.
The Revelations Manager Priyan De Livera explained that the group firmly believe that, “singing together brings people together,” and towards this end they conducted two workshops, “to share their knowledge and expertise,” in Kuala Lumpur with the students of the Young Choral Academy and the Chinese School Choir in Ipoh. The students’ enthusiasm and overwhelming response was, “very inspiring and uplifting.”
They held two performances in Penang, including one at the performing arts centre of Penang where they wowed their audiences with that little bit of extra magic that makes a song special. The Sinhala medley, specially arranged by Sanjeev and their rendition of the patriotic Malaysian song Bhoomi Malaysia, where they were joined on stage by the members of Caipifruta vocal, who had invited them and performed along with them both in KL and in Penang , was especially well received by the audience.
Currently ranked seventh in the world among male choirs, the group is now preparing for their next show The Revelations in Concert to be held on June 15 and 16 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre in Colombo after which they will embark on another tour of two countries. |
