Tourist arrivals witnessed a significant increase in May compared to the previous month. There were over 15,000 arrivals from India, higher than most other countries, but the Indian arrivals was however down by 4.6% compared to the same period last year.
Overall arrivals have contributed to a 17.5 per cent increase in arrivals compared to the previous year, statistics released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) indicates. European travel in May had also increased compared to the same period last year, the report said. On the other hand, January - May had seen a relatively increased number of arrivals for the period amounting to a total of 387, 622, up 18.2% from the same period last year. |
