Chinese travellers outnumbered Indian visitors to Sri Lanka, for the first time ever, in July by approximately 1000, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) said on Monday. India which generally records the highest number of visitors, recorded 24,681 arrivals, up by 28 per cent compared to last year whereas 25,120 Chinese travellers arrived in July in 2015, up by a significant 65.5 per cent. China is expected to end the year as the second largest source market, beating the UK. There was a significant increase from the Middle Eastern market during this month with Saudi Arabia topping the list with an increase from 1,785 in 2014 to 7,092 this year. UK too had shown an increase of about 23.7 per cent up from last year to 20, 643 in 2015. (SD)

In his special statement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that debt restructuring agreements will postpone all bilateral loan payments to foreign countries until 2028. Additionally, Sri Lanka will have until 2043 to repay these loans on concessional terms.
