Blast from the past as Boyzone leave Lankan fans thrilled

It was a blast from the past as ‘Boyzone’ the Irish band that had ruled the charts in the 90s performed in Colombo last night at the CR&FC grounds. It was the start of the band’s Asian leg of their farewell 25^th anniversary tour and loyal fans revelled in the music as they performed their favourite hits in a nostalgia-filled one and a half hour concert.

The heavy downpour just an hour before the show may have had fans taking their time to get to the ground but the band was on stage shortly after the scheduled time of 8 p.m. to get on with the show  presented by Standard Chartered Bank and DCI Events and Entertainment.

With 18 Top Ten hits in the UK, Boyzone’s sentimental hits such as ‘Words’, ‘Baby Can I Hold You Tonight’, ‘Every day I Love You’, and ‘No Matter What’ had them firmly established as one of the top boy bands of their time.The band comprises Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy with their original five members being reduced with the untimely death of Stephen Gately.

Keating paid tribute to’our brother Stephen speaking of how they missed him and dedicating a segment of the show to him. The band split-up in 2000, but have reunited on and off for tours and are also looking forward to the launch of their final album later this year and a major tour of the UK.

It was also a special day for Keating as he shared with the audience that it was the first time his little son Cooper was seeing a Boyzone performance. Also that it was his anniversary- singing a number to his wife Stormi –‘Love the way you love me’.

Despite fans demanding more, the band wrapped up appearing for just one encore. Their tour continues with shows in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia over the next few days.
