September 10 is known worldwide as World Suicide Prevention Day. To raise awareness on this cause and open doors to begin much needed discussions about mental health and wellbeing, the Courage - Compassion - Commitment Foundation or the CCC Foundation concluded their 13-day long 1333 Bikeathon, ‘Out of the shadows’, on this significant day.
This year marked the 7th consecutive Bikeathon, an annual cycle tour around Sri Lanka in an effort to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention efforts in Sri Lanka.
Bikers were joined on their last day by walkers from ‘Let’s TALK and Walk’, a walk organized to support the awareness campaign. The walk commenced from the Galle Face Green and ended at the Independence Square, closely following the returning riders to the finishing point.
All proceeds will go towards the Foundation’s CCCline 1333 helpline, a toll free telephone counselling service to support those who require help in the areas of emotional wellbeing and mental health care.
