The Nephrology –Dialysis and Kidney Transplant Units of the General Hospital Kandy which has performed more than 1,250 kidney transplants is appealing for donations from charitable donors this Vesak season.
The fully equipped ward with 20 beds was set up with donations from the Editor and publisher of the Vesak Lipi, and over the past five years, readers of the Vesak Lipi which is published annually have continued to contribute generously for this worthy cause. Donations received have totalled more than Rs. 7 million which has been used to buy much needed equipment and other requirements for the ward which also caters to around 35 outdoor patients who come in each month for dialysis. Much more is needed to help sustain this unit which has Dr. A.M.L. Beligaswatte and Dr. D. Tilak Abeysekera at its helm.
The urgent requirements now are: Multipara monitors ( five) each costing Rs. 200,000, blood pressure meters (four)- each costing Rs. 20,000, gluco meters (five) – each costing Rs. 3,000 and biopsy needles. Any contributions should be drawn to:
