Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo will be organizing Kathak performance by Umesha Samarasooriya and the students of leluma Kalathanaya on 8 December and ICCR scholarship holder Devpahan Perera will be giving a Sitar recital on 12 December at 6.00 pm at Indian Cultural Centre auditorium located at 16/2 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.
Umesha Samarasooriya has completed Nritya Vishard in Kathak from Bhathkande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow. She has been trained under the guidance of her own sister Guru Moksha Samarasooriya, Director of Leluma Kalathanaya. Presently Umesha is the Director of Uma Creations Kathak Dance School established in 1972, Gampaha.
Devpahan Perera has completed his Bachelor and Master of Music in Sitar at Banaras Hindu University, India and also has received Visharadha degree at Bathkande Sangeeth Vidyapita, Lucknow. He is currently serving as sitar teacher at Adampane Sudharshana MahaVidyalaya, Anuradhapura and conducting Bathkhande Music examinations at Deepa Manjari Sangeeth Nekethanaya, Anuradhapura and Erandhathi Lalithakala Nikethanaya, Kurunegala. He has performed widely in many places in Sri Lanka.
