Heavy showers are expected in the next 24 hours in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces the Department of Meteorology has announced .
With the prevailing rainy weather in the country the sluice gates of 26 reservoirs have been opened, the Irrigation Department said.
The Disaster Management Division has warned that people living in the low lying areas of the reservoirs could be subject to sudden floods.
The Disaster Management Unit said that the Sungavila-Polonnaruwa road has been closed due to floods.
Also, the road on the Matale-Kurunegala road has been disrupted due to earth slips and falling of trees.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a landslide warning for Matale, Kandy, Badulla, Moneragala and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The Organization further calls upon the people living along the banks and slopes to be alert.
