The agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be tabled in Parliament soon after the agreement is finalised, state Minister of Finance ShehaN Semasinghe said.
He said they were expecting the annoucment to later tonight after the IMF Board meets later in the day.
An official announcment is due to be made in Sri Lanka tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka was cautiously reacting to the annoucement of the facility.
Mr Semasinghe said that the country would be able to ensure further economic progress only if stability is maintained in the country.
He said there were interested parties who were trying to disrupt stability.
Meanwhile MP Patali Champika Ranawaka commenting about the announcement said.
“We have to remember that we have to face the most serious problems when we act according to the IMF agreement. That means negotiating with our local creditors and foreign creditors according to the credit standards decided by the IMF,” he said.
“ There are several main issues that arise in it. One is that some creditors have told us that they are international multiple creditors. That means that the loans of the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank need to be restructured, ” he said.
