The Attorney General (AG) has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct comprehensive investigations into the import of several swords, daggers and other sharp weapons into the country with regard to a Writ Application filed by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith over the incident.
According to a senior official attached to the AG office, a directive issued to IGP office to conduct investigations and arrest those individuals who were behind the massive haul import of sharp weapons prior to Easter Sunday attacks. At least 6000 swords and other sharp weapons were imported.
Earlier Cardinal Malcom Ranjith filed a writ application at the Court of Appeal over the incident. The Court is to take up the case on March 31.
