Driver killed, 12 tourists injured in bus accident
A bus transporting a group of Russian tourists collided with a truck carrying cement between Aparekka and Beliatta on the Southern Expressway early this morning.
Police said the bus, traveling from Colombo to Mattala, collided with the back of this truck. The bus driver and 12 tourists who were injured in the incident were admitted to the Beliatta Hospital, where the bus driver succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 29-year-old resident of Dodangoda.
Seven of the injured Russian tourists have been transferred to the Tangalle Base Hospital for further treatment. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
