The hoisting of the flag mast for the annual St Anne’s Thalawila feast took place on Saturday evening with a limited crowd from the parish attending the event.
This was in contrast to large numbers turning up for the event annually.
Due to health restrictions the church deviated from the usual procedures and hoisted the flag mast on Saturday evening instead of a Sunday.
Parish priest Rev Fr Lyly Fernando said that the step was taken to minimize the crowds attending the event.
He said the usual Novenas will not be held this time. However daily masses at 7.00 a.m, 11.00 a.m and 5.00 P.m. which will be open for the public from outstations will be held.
However, no camping will be allowed in the Church premises.
The feast mass will be held on March 14, Sunday.
