Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and four others arrested by CID over an allegation of misusing Rs.6.1 million in 2014 were granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court today.
The former Minister was arrested yesterday by the Criminal Investigation Department.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson, the funds were obtained through the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation under the pretense of providing assistance to flood victims in Bingiriya and Narammala. However, the funds were allegedly used for presidential election campaigning in 2015, the police has claimed.

Energy Ministry differs on proposed electricity tariff reduction from today.
The Energy Ministry has decided to go ahead with the PUCSL recommendation of reducing the electricity tariff by an average of 20 per cent, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody said today.
The Anurdhapura Magistrate Court has granted permission to further investigate allegations of obstructing the duties of the Police, levelled against Member of Parliament Dr Archuna Ramanathan and report facts to courts on February 3.
