Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has filed a fundamental rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order for the re-deployment of his security.
The former President in the petition has said that his security has been reduced without a proper assessment of his security.
Among the respondents are Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and the Cabinet of Ministers .
The petition also says that only policemen have been deployed for his security and there are no armed security personnel deployed.
The role played by the former President in ending the conflict in the north and east and eliminating the LTTE have been cited in the petition.
More than 100 lawyers have pledged support to appear for the former President.
