IndiGo has emerged as the leading foreign carrier in Sri Lanka, now operating 54 weekly flights between the island nation and India. The low-cost airline connects Colombo and Jaffna with major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, noted that the milestone highlights the airline’s role in strengthening bilateral ties and fostering economic growth in the region.
The heads of the Tourism Authority also praised IndiGo’s success, emphasizing its contribution to tourism, economic growth, and cultural exchange. They noted that the airline’s increased operations, including flights to Jaffna, reflect a commitment to the development of the Northern Province, further enhancing Sri Lanka’s tourism potential.
