Several areas in the Eastern province have been issued warning of potential flooding situaion, particulalry those in the low land areas after yesterday's heavy downpours.
Regional Disaster Management Centre (DMC) officials expressed concerns on the possibility of major flooding situaion in lowline areas of Malwathu Oya valley (Vengalacheddikulam, Madu, Mussalei, Nanaddan) and Gal Oya valley (Addalachchenei, Akkaraipattu, Ampara, Damana, Eragama, Madulla, Nindavur, Sammanthurai).
According to situaion report issued by DMC today, 16930 persons from 5738 families have been affected due to adverse weather situation that prevails in the country.
