Leave granted for employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been cancelled with effect from January 02.
In a circular issued by Acting General Manager Dr. Nerandra de Silva, the CEB cancelled all leave of its employees stating electricity has been declared as an essential service and that the CEB is committed to continuous supply of electricity.
Those who are in need of leave due to emergency situation will be able to apply following the approval of a senior executive grade officer.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union said it will launch a three day trade union action starting from today (03).
The Union’s General Secretary Ranjan Jayalal demanded the Minister of Power and Energy to withdraw the new electricity bill to restructure the CEB. CEB employees are to take part in an afternoon protest near the CEB headquarters today, he said.
The bill was gazetted on December 05.
