A link between smuggling of drugs and the entry of foreign weapons into the country has been revealed during ongoing investigations on the narcotic trade by the Special Task Force (STF)
STF has found, that the persons allegedly smuggling large quantity of drugs via Afghanistan and Pakistan were receiving weapons as well as a way of enticing them into the trade.
In the past few months, in raids done by the Special Task Force, 47 new pistols have been recovered.
The persons arrested have confessed that five weapons were being offered for large scale drug deals and they include T56 weapons and pistols, STF sources said.
However, no T56 weapons have been recovered so far.
The STF in the recent months have carried a number or raids in which narcotics have been detected.
A foreign made pistol (T54) was detected during a raid for drugs in Mulleriyawa.
