Janith Madushanka de Silva, widely known as "Podi Lasi," was arrested today ,January 16, 2025 by Indian police. Sri Lankan authorities are currently in discussions with their Indian counterparts regarding his deportation.
The Galle Magistrate's Court had granted conditional bail to Madushanka on December 9, 2024, imposing a travel ban. However, in violation of the court order, he illegally fled the country.
Sri Lanka Police later received information confirming his presence in India.
Following the intervention of Sri Lanka's Acting Inspector General of Police, Indian law enforcement successfully apprehended Madushanka.Talks are underway to finalize his deportation process, and authorities expect to bring him back to Sri Lanka as early as tomorrow.
Upon his return, legal proceedings against him will resume.
Meanwhile, police sources have revealed suspicions that Salindu Malshika Gunarathne, alias "Kudu Salindu," may also be hiding in India. Sri Lankan authorities remain on high alert regarding his whereabouts.
