A 33 year old prison inmate at Kegalle prison has died from gunshot injuries after prison officers fired at him while attempting to flee, police said.
According to police, the prisoner had attempted to flee at about 5.30 a.m. today. He was rushed to Kegalle hospital with gunshot wounds and succumbed to injuries.
Kegalle police has commenced an investigation into the incident.
The deceased from Melsiripura has been in jail for unpaid child support.
