Three Sri Lankan fishing boats carrying drugs have been seized and 19 persons onboard were detained by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship ‘Varaha ’, Indian newspapers reported.
The Sri Lankan fishing boats were identified as ‘Akarsha Duwa’, ‘Chathu Rani 3’ and ‘Chathu Rani 8’.
Persons on one vessels had reportedly claimed that they had received around 200 kg of heroin and 60 kg of hashish from a Pakistani boat, 400 Nautical Miles west of Lakshadweep islands.
However, there was no confirmation of the claims.
The boats were brought to Vizhinjam harbour for further inspection while the suspects are to be questioned.
