The Met Dept says that afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island are expected today.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-central, North-western and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Manna districts during the day and night, the Department said.
Moderate downpours of about 75mm are to look for at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kalutara, Galle and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Several showers are likely to fall out in the coastal areas of the Eastern Province.
In the meantime, the general public is advised to take adequate preventative measures to ensure safety of themselves from damages within reach triggered by strong gusts and lightning during thundershowers.
Showers or thundershowers are most likely to occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast widening from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be easterly to south-easterly and will revolve arounf 20-30 KMPH.
The sea areas around the island will be moderate although strong gusty winds and very turbulent waters may come to pass during thundershowers transitorily.
