The Appeal Court has issued notice on Professor Sarath Wijesuriya to appear before court over contempts of court charges, on June 21.
Appeal Court judges Deepali Wijesundara and Achala Wengappulli had issued orders to this effect after considering a complaint filed against the Professor. The complaint had been filed by Attorney Sampath Vajira Kumara and Retired Army Officer Anil Wasantha Alwis.
According to the complainants, Professor Wijesuriya had made defamatory remarks against the judiciary on several occassions including on social media.
While questioning as to why legal action was not taken against him, the complainats requested court to mete out the relevant punishments to the defendant.
