The writ petition filed against the re-settlement of people by clearing forest land at the Wilpattu forest reserve, will be taken up for hearing on July 31, the Appeal Court announced today (May 28).
This was announced by the Appeal Court's two member trial-at-bar of Judges Janaka de Sikva and Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne.
The Centre for Enviornmental Justice had filed the petition against the construction of houses for the resettlement of war victims at the cost of clearing forest land.
Nine individuals including the Wildlife Department's Director General, Central Enviornmental Authority, Mannar District Secretariat, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, and the Attorney General have been named as reposndents to the petition.
