Cabinet approval has been granted to construct a courts complex in Trincomalee and a new court building in Walapane, following a proposal put forward by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale.
The Trincomalee Courts Complex will be constructed at a cost of Rs 250 million while consultancy services will be handled by the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB).
A High Court, Civil Appeal Court, District Court, Magistrate's Court, Additional Magistrate's Court, and a Labour Tribunal will be constructed within the complex.
Meanwhile, the Walapane court building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 212.3 million, acording to a cabinet proposal put forward by the Justice Minister.
The proposal notes that a new building would be constructed owing to space constraints in the building which has inconvenienced the public and court employees.
The CECB has been handed over the contract to offer consultancy services for the construction of the building as well.
