Transport authorities have run into practical difficulties in a bid to crack down on inappropriate content being screen on television sets aborad buses, Chairman of the National Transport Commission Eng M.A.P Hemachandra said.
Mr Hemachandra said that they are aware that the bus operators are notorious for playing musical shows with dancing groups dressed in inappropriate attire.
“We deploy our officials to detect and fine bus drivers who play such shows and music, yet whenever the bus operators know that our officers are up ahead they switch off the Tv sets and escape detection”.
He said that it is practically hard to monitor all buses.
“ We cannot deploy an officer per 30200 to regulate this, the police should take actions against the nuisance created by the bus drivers” he said.
Passengers on the buses plug their ears with earphones to escape the music while most of them turn their heads towards the shutters to avoid the unpleasant dancing acts.
At some buses the same song is repetitively played even the crowed in the buses show signs of irritation and disgust towards the taste of the music of the bus drivers.
Police said that they are there to detect traffic offences, when ever the regulatory boards find it difficult to resolve the issues , they always shift responsibility to the police.
