A special Central Committee meeting of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has been called on Thursday to make a final decision regarding further trade union action regarding the SAITM, the Association said today.
GMOA said it is the responsibility of the Medical Council to regulate the medical education and standards of the doctors and it is a globally accepted principle.
They claimed that the minister has no power to remove the President of the SLMC and Prof. Carlo Fonseka has already been appointed as the president of the SLMC for another five years.
Commenting on the decision to take over the Neville Fernando hospital to government they said although it would be a good move to have another government hospitals built with private funds, it does not resolve the SAITM problem.
