The Government Analysts' Department has confirmed that the DNA samples of the Easter Sunday suicide bombers matched the identities of the attackers, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Mr. Gunasekara explained today (May 21) that the samples obtained from Shangri-La suicide bomber and National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) leader Zahran Cassim had matched with the DNA of his daughter.
Further, the DNA samples of Shangri-La bomber M.I. Ilham Ahamed and his brother M.I. Inshaf Ahamed who committed suicide at the Cinnamon Grand hotel had also tallied with the DNA obtained from their father who is under custody.
The identity of Fathima Jiffriya Ilham (the wife of the Shangri-La bomber) had also been established during the relevant tests, the Police Spokesman noted adding that her three children's DNA had correspondend with their father's one.
In addition, the identities of bombers A.M Muhamadu Hasthun and A. Alaudeen Muath who blew themselves up at the Kotahena St. Anthony's Church and Katuwapitiya St. Sebastian's Church had also been confirmed by matching them with that of their parents.
The identity of A.L. Mohamed Jameel who committed suicide at New Tropical Inn in Dehiwala had matched with the DNA samples of his children, Superintendent Gunasekara added.
Meanwhile, the Analysts' Department had also confirmed the identity of the Batticaloa Zeon Church bomber to be that of Mohomed Azad, by matching it with his mother's.
The DNA of Kingsbury bomber M.A. Mohamed Mubarak had also matched with the samples obtained from his children, the Police Spokesman said.
