India sending emergency petrol shipment to Sri Lanka

News

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to extend every assistance for Sri Lanka to avert the current fuel crisis in the country, Indian High Commission sources revealed.
He gave this assurance on a request made by President Maithripala Sirisena during a telephone conversation on Wednesday evening.
The Indian government has directed its authorities to send a ship carrying 21,000 kl (kilo litres) of petrol to Sri Lanka on the directions of the Indian PM as an emergency assistance and this shipment is to arrive in the island shortly.
Prime Minister Modi told the Sri Lankan President that additional fuel will be made available at the Kochi refinery and more petrol shipments could be sent if needed.
The Lanka IOC has also made available 3500 kl of petrol immediately from its own stocks to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.   (Bandula)
