Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has been acquitted as a suspect in the case involving the shooting of an individual which took place during a tense situation which took place last year the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) shooting incident last year.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the suspect to be released since the prosecution had informed that further legal action will not be taken against the Minister.
Mr. Ranatunga, the then Petroleum Resources Minister was named as a suspect during a brawl which took place at the CPC during the constitutional crisis last year.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed court that the Attorney General had said that further legal action will not be taken against Minister Ranatunga.
Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate after having taken these matters into consideration had declared that the Minister could be acquitted from the case.
