A crocodile which caused fear amongst the residents of the Andarawewa area in the Anamaduwa division was captured and released into the Wilpattu Forest Reserve yesterday at around 11 pm in the evening.
Area residents say that the crocodile which took shelter at Andaraweva during the day used to move towards the other areas in the vicinity while hunting down dogs during the night.
The area residents having captured the crocodile notified the Wildlife Department Officials who then released the captured crocodile into the Wilpattu.
The crocodile is estimated to be around 250kg in weight and more than 9 feet in length.
