One killed in Balapitiya shooting
One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries after they were shot by unidentified gunmen in front of the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court this morning.
Police Media Unit said the victims had been at a hotel located in front of the court's premises when they had been shot at around 11.45am by two unidentified gunmen who had arrived on a motorbike. The gunmen had made their escape after shooting the victims.
The two victims, who suffered serious gunshot wounds, were admitted to the Balapitiya hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 56-year-old resident of Unit 16, Kantale. The injured person still receiving treatment at the Balapitiya hospital has been identified as a resident of Induruwa.
The suspects remain at large and Ambalangoda Police are conducting further investigations.
