Cabinet approval has been granted to set up a plant to recycle waste plastic and polythene using a 'Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Machine' at Pethiyakanda, Ratnapura.
The machine manufactured by South Korea-based Omega Energy Envirotec Institutewill be handed over to the Central Envionrmental Authority.
According to the President's cabinet proposal, the plant is expected to convert polythene and plastic into pyrolysis oil which can be used as fuel and carbon powder used in road construction.
The machine will be installed as a part of the National Solid Waste Management Project.
