The presidential election will be held between November 15 and December 7, Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said today (Jul 22).
Addressing a press briefing, Mr. Deshapriya said that the relevant officials including the President, Prime Minister, and the Speaker have been made aware of this decision.
He observed that only the President has the power to change the scheduled date for the polls
“The President too can call for an early election only and not postpone the elections beyond the given date,” the Elections Commission Chairman noted.
