The United Nations and the Ministry of Education in Partnership with Hatton National Bank have come together to launch a campaign on the 72nd UN Day celebrations to be held tomorrow (Oct 24) at the Ministry of Education.
“The Sustainable Development Goals Action Campaign” will educate and encourage students from across the country to design and implement a Sustainable Development Goals based project in local communities.
Sustainable Development Goals first came in to being when countries adopted the concept in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as apart of a new sustainable development agenda. The United Nations believes that in order to reach the goals, every individual and institution in the country has to work towards it.
The Action campaign will support student-led initiatives towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka by educating students on the subject, calling for project proposals and empowering 25 selected school projects across the island.
This campaign will mobilize the Sri Lankan youth to advocate and work towards the Sustainable Development Goals and in doing so, inspire their communities to work in partnership to build the future and achieve the goals for people and for the prosperity of the country. (Shaadya Ismail)
